Happy Birthday, to our NEW CHAMPION!

A new champion has been named in the Rosewood family: CH Olde Ridge Rosewood’s Oh My Stars N Garters! JH CGC NW1 TRK1, who is otherwise known as Fiona, Fifi, or Bunny Rabbit. Fiona was entrusted to us by her breeder, Ann Wallace. Ann wanted Fiona to DO things, and she knew she didn’t have the time to devote to training and competing. She also knew that we were going to be parting with our singleton puppy, Georgie Girl, since Georgie didn’t have the conformation we needed to go forward with our breeding plans. With the puppies being only a week apart in age, it was perfect timing. Romping and playing together for a few days eased their transitions to new homes, and while it was difficult for me to let Georgie go, having Fiona made it a tiny bit easier

Fifi has been a joy. As soon as she was 4 months old, she was entered in Beginner Puppy classes at dog shows, where I hoped she would get some valuable practice before she turned 6 months old, at which time she would have to be entered in “real” shows. Little did I imagine how well she would do! She was Best In Show Puppy and won group placements! Later on, in the regular shows, she was always in the ribbons and had Sporting Group placements in the Owner Handled Series. But as one judge told me while handing me a blue ribbon, “You’ve got your work cut out for you with that one!” Fiona is a clown and a ham. She loves to “skip” and pace, neither of which is a manner of moving that is suitable for the show ring, where dogs are supposed to gait, or trot. Try as I might, I could not always guarantee that Fiona would gait when the judge sent us around the ring, but when she did, it was simply gorgeous.

While Fiona was working on her championship title, she was also in training for hunt tests, K9 Nose Work, and basic manners. She earned her Canine Good Citizen title at the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America’s National Specialty Show and her Junior Hunter title a few days later, followed by her NW1 title (Nose Work) a few months after that. Recently she added a Novice Tricks title to her list of accomplishments and is working on her Intermediate Tricks title.

Today is Fiona’s 2nd birthday. There are still more K9 Nose Work competitions in store for her, maybe a Grand Championship, hopefully motherhood, and definitely a future filled with fun!

We can't wait to see what the next few years bring. Happy birthday, Fifi!
